Transition Education Program

Through classroom and community-based activities, the TEP aims to foster independence in the areas of personal and home management, social and communication skills, functional literacy, work and leisure. It incorporates pertinent principles and techniques on special education, occupational and speech therapy. The TEP may be taken independently or jointly with ILLC’s Modified/Functional Basic Education and Job Readiness Program. It is composed of the following subjects:

A. Life Skills

Aims to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for the students to achieve personal awareness and an optimum level of independence in personal and home managements. Collaborative effort with the student’s family will be emphasized to promote carry-over of skills at home.

B. Applied Academics

Aims to develop the student’s knowledge and skills in Functional Math and Communication Arts (Listening, Comprehension, Speaking, Reading and Writing) and to provide learning opportunities to apply these in practical and relevant activities of Daily Living.

C. Prevocational Skills Training

Work behaviors and skills essential for future employment / vocational pursuits are taught through various work experiences and activities. Experiential instruction will be employed to provide the students an opportunity to immediately practice and refine newly learned skills and behaviors in real-life work environments.

D. Leisure and Recreation

Aims to promote the students’ competencies in specialized leisure/recreation activities, to foster the students’ general health and to develop socio-emotional skills necessary for a healthy work-life balance.

E. Community Living

Aims to develop the students’ language, communication and socio-emotional skills through professionally planned and creatively curated physical/virtual trips to various relevant community settings such as malls, groceries, churches, recreational facilities, restaurants, health facilities and the like.

Independent Living Learning Centre

The Independent Living Learning Center was established in 2003 to cater to the needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with developmental conditions. Our aim is for our students to maximize their ability to become self-sufficient and become happy and productive members of society.
